Armstrong Downes Commercial commenced on site in June 2013 completed the first stage of the project in February 2015. This included 47 apartments in the three storey central complex, two conservatories, a dining area, a library, an IT lounge, and a bar. A “men’s shed” was also built providing a great workshop space for residents. The views over the Hutt River out to Wellington Harbour, as well as north towards the Tararuas, are absolutely spectacular.

Features of the build were the use of an AFS Logic concrete wall system designed specifically for the rapid construction of multi - storey apartments and villages.

The project included full interior, designer fit-out and hard landscaping.

There were 30 trades across the whole project with many of them also local firms. At various stages of the project up to 100 trade workers were on the site at any one time. Working next to the city centre and on an already fully tenanted existing retirement village the site was busy, and attracted much interest.

An additional 39 apartments are planned in Stage two and will be completed in 2018 when a full range of village amenities will also be available.  A spacious entrance lobby will lead to reception, a hairdressing and beauty salon, café and dining area, snooker room and an indoor bowls and games areas. On the first floor will be a library, an IT and office suite, arts and crafts room, theatre for movies and live entertainment, exercise room, gym, spa and sauna along with large lounge and bar opening out on to the deck theatre.

 

Special Info / Challenges: 

This project is believed to be the largest commercial development seen in Central Hutt since Armstrong Downes finished the Harvey Norman Centre in 2007.
